Six sides is not a decoration. On a honey shelf, a hexagonal gift box does three things a square box cannot: it shows three extra printed panels, it stops the jar from rolling when the lid is off, and it reads as a gift before the customer picks it up. This hexagonal rigid gift box is built for honey producers, tea packers and chocolate brands who want a gift format that survives a container and still looks sharp on a boutique counter.

The body is a 2 mm rigid greyboard shell wrapped in 157 gsm art paper, printed in bright yellow with deep green panels, then finished in matte lamination so the yellow does not glare under retail lighting. This hexagonal paper board gift box with flap lid uses a magnet set into the flap edge instead of a full lid, so the box opens from the front like a book rather than lifting off. That single change is what makes it a creative packaging box instead of a standard hexagon tube.
For honey, the inside matters more than the outside. A honey packaging box has to hold a heavy glass jar through a 1.2 m drop test, keep the jar from rotating so the label always faces the right panel, and leave room for a dipper, a card or a small tasting jar. We cut a paperboard cradle to the jar footprint, add a lid pad, and print both so the interior looks finished when the box is opened.
Yellow and dark green are a demanding pair to print at volume. Yellow needs an opaque white base coat on greyboard or it turns olive, and deep green shifts under warm factory light, so we proof both colours under D65 and keep the approved sheet on file for reorders. Buyers comparing wholesale gift boxes quotes should always ask whether a base coat is included, because it is the first cost a cheap quote removes. If you prefer an uncoated surface, the same structure is available as a kraft paper gift box at a lower print cost.
Structure costs freight. Foldable hexagon bodies ship flat, lids and inserts pack nested, and shipped volume drops 60 to 70 percent against assembled boxes. For a first container this is often the difference between a landed cost that works and one that does not, especially for a luxury gift packaging programme with four SKUs.
| Feature | Specification | Benefit To Your Brand |
|---|---|---|
| Six Sided Rigid Shell | 2 mm greyboard, 157 gsm art paper wrap, 2.5 mm reinforced edges | Three more printed panels than a square box, and the geometry holds its shape after stacking |
| Flap Lid With Magnet | Front opening flap, 2 concealed magnets, ribbon or finger notch option | Opens like a book so the customer sees the whole set at once, and it closes with a clean snap |
| Paperboard Cradle Insert | Die cut 350 to 400 gsm board, cut to your jar or tin footprint | Stops the jar rotating so the label always faces the display panel, and no plastic foam is needed, which keeps the paperboard gift box fully recyclable |
| Yellow And Green Print | Pantone spot colours with opaque white base coat, matte lamination | Colour holds across repeat runs instead of drifting olive, which is what kills a yellow brand |
| Window And Cut Out Options | PET or PLA window, die cut shapes, laser cut pattern | Shows the product through the packaging without opening the lid, a common ask for tea gift box sets |
| Foldable Flat Pack | Ships flat, locks into shape in about five seconds | 60 to 70 percent lower freight volume and lower warehouse space cost |
| Size Family | 100 mm to 320 mm across the flats, 40 to 150 mm deep | Single jar, three jar and six jar sets can share one structure and one dieline family |
| FSC Paper Build | FSC certified board, water based glue, repulpable insert | Meets the sustainability questions EU and US retail buyers now ask at sample stage |

A hexagon shape rigid gift box is bought for a reason, and the reason is almost never the shape itself. It is the shelf presence, the protection of a heavy jar, or the fact that a tea gift box set looks under dressed in a square carton. The table below lists the concerns we hear from honey producers, chocolate brands, coffee roasters and tea packers, and how the structure answers each one.
| Application Scenario | What The Buyer Worries About | How This Box Solves It |
|---|---|---|
| Honey jars and honey gift sets | A 500 g glass jar is heavy, it slides, and one cracked jar ruins the whole carton | Paperboard cradle cut to the jar footprint plus a lid pad, with 2.5 mm reinforced edges and a 1.2 m drop test on the first article |
| Chocolate bars, truffles and pralines | Chocolate marks in transit and a six sided box leaves gaps where bars slide into the corners | A divided paperboard tray follows the hexagon geometry so each bar sits in its own cell with no corner gaps, which is what separates a real chocolate gift box from a printed carton |
| Coffee bags, jars and canisters | The bag will not stand, the valve gets crushed, and the box bulges at the seam | Base cavity cut to the pouch footprint, a valve notch on one panel, and a reinforced seam that keeps the hexagon flat sided |
| Tea tins and tea gift collections | Multiple tins rattle, the divider shows through as a dent, and the set feels light for the price | Multi cavity insert with 3 mm paper dividers, each cell wrapped in the same printed paper so no bare board edge is visible |
| Retail shelf and boutique display | Corners scuff in handling and the yellow print scuffs first | Matte lamination, 2 mm lid overhang and corner boards in the master carton keep the edges clean |
| Seasonal and limited editions | A hexagon die is expensive if it only runs once | One die family covers single, three and six jar sets, so a new season only needs new artwork, not a new tool |
| Eco driven EU and US buyers | Foam inserts fail the retailer sustainability scorecard | Paperboard cradle, FSC board and water based glue make this an eco friendly packaging box that is fully repulpable, and the material declaration is supplied |
One note from our production floor that saves money: the lid pad is not optional on a heavy jar. Without it the jar pushes the flap during transit and the magnets separate by the time the carton lands, which is the most common quality claim we see on honey gift boxes. It costs a few cents and it removes a whole category of complaint.
Q1. What is the MOQ for a custom hexagonal rigid gift box?
A: 500 pieces per size and artwork. Sampling starts from one piece, so you can hold the shape and the print in your hand before you commit to a production run.
Q2. Why six sides instead of a square box?
A: A hexagonal box uses the same board as a square box but presents three extra printed panels, so a honey or tea set reads as a gift rather than a carton on the shelf. It also nests better in a display, and the lid can be rotated to show a different panel each season.
Q3. Will the hexagonal corners crush in transit?
A: Every folded edge is reinforced with a 2 mm greyboard rib and the lid overhangs the base by 2 mm, so the corners take the impact instead of the print. Cartons use corner boards on request for LCL cargo.
Q4. Can you print yellow and dark green to our brand colours?
A: Yes. Yellow and deep green are quoted as Pantone spot colours on the wrap, with a printed colour proof under D65 light before production. Yellow needs an opaque white base layer on greyboard, so we always print a base coat rather than a single pass.
Q5. What insert works best for a honey jar?
A: A die cut paperboard cradle at the base plus a lid pad. The cradle holds the jar base and stops the jar rotating, the pad sits against the lid, and both are made from printed paper so the inside of the box looks finished when the customer opens it.
Q6. Can the box be shipped flat and assembled by us?
A: Yes. Foldable hexagon bodies ship flat and open into shape in about five seconds with magnets or locking tabs, which saves 60 to 70 percent of freight volume compared with assembled boxes.
Q7. What sizes can you produce?
A: From 100 mm across the flats for single jars and small tea tins up to 320 mm for multi jar gift sets, with any depth between 40 mm and 150 mm. Any size inside that range is custom.
Q8. How long does a first order take?
A: Sample 5 to 7 working days, mass production 12 to 20 working days after artwork approval and deposit, then 7 to 10 days by air or 25 to 35 days by sea.
Q9. Is the box recyclable?
A: Yes. FSC board, water based glue and paperboard inserts make the whole box repulpable, and we can supply the material declaration your retailer asks for. Foil stamping is the only element that needs to be kept small for a clean repulp.
Q10. Do you offer window patching for a creative packaging box?
A: Yes, PET or PLA windows, die cut shapes and laser cut patterns are all available. A small window on one of the six panels shows the product without opening the lid.
Q11. What payment terms do you accept?
A: 30 percent deposit and 70 percent before shipment. T/T, L/C at sight, PayPal and Trade Assurance are accepted, and repeat buyers can apply for net 30 after three completed orders.

Send your jar drawing, target quantity and artwork, and we will come back with a cradle layout, a hexagon dieline, a quotation and a sample schedule within one working day. If you are still comparing suppliers, ask each one for the board thickness, the insert board grade and whether the yellow is printed with a base coat. Those three answers separate a gift box that survives a container from one that only looks right in a photo.
